There is a certain discomfort in unfinished things.
A question without an answer.
A decision that has not yet become clear.
A version of ourselves that is still changing.
We often want to move quickly past uncertainty.
We look for the next action.
The next solution.
The next explanation.
Somewhere along the way, we learn that progress comes from movement.
And often, that is true.
But not everything meaningful asks us to move immediately.
Some things ask us to hold.
Holding is different from waiting.
Waiting suggests that we are standing still until something happens.
Holding is an active practice.
It is the willingness to stay present with something before rushing to define it.
It is creating enough space between a feeling and a reaction.
Between a question and an answer.
Between what is happening and what we assume it means.
This year has brought many transitions.
A new academic journey.
New responsibilities.
New perspectives.
Old questions returning in unexpected ways.
There have been moments when I wanted clarity immediately.
What does this mean?
What should I do next?
How do I make this better?
But I am beginning to notice that some questions become clearer only when they are given enough room.
A tree does not grow because we pull at its branches.
Growth happens through conditions.
The right environment.
Steady attention.
Time.
Perhaps parts of our lives work the same way.
Some ideas need time before they become direction.
Some relationships need patience before they reveal their shape.
Some decisions need quiet before they become obvious.
Holding does not mean avoiding action.
It does not mean staying in uncertainty forever.
It means resisting the urge to close a question before we have understood it.
It means allowing ourselves to observe before we conclude.
It means recognizing that clarity is sometimes something we uncover, not something we force.
This month, I want to explore the things we hold.
Not only the things that feel heavy.
But also the things that are still becoming.
The questions we are carrying.
The possibilities we are nurturing.
The parts of ourselves we are still learning to understand.
Perhaps clarity does not always arrive when we search harder.
Perhaps sometimes clarity arrives when we learn how to stay with something long enough to truly see it.
August Reflection
What are you holding right now?
Not what are you fixing.
Not what are you avoiding.
What deserves your attention before your action?
